Removable partial denture (or "RPD") fills in the space created by missing teeth.  When teeth are missing, the remaining ones can change position, drifting into surrounding space.  There are two kinds of partial dentures: acrylic partial (also called temporary or flipper), and partial dentures with metal as a base.  Each partial is made to fit your mouth.  Metal base partials are more stable and retentive; they sit on the teeth, as well as being attached to them.  The differences between partials are the materials used to support denture teeth and retain in the mouth.
